Crystal Drop Glass Bead Ornament ~ Craft Project Kit Assembly Tutorial

The Crystal Drop is an elegant geometric ornament created with a mix of round beads, tube beads and bump beads. Four colorways are available as project kits that contain all necessary beads and wire to create one ornament. Completed ornament measures about 4-1/2" long. The illustrated steps below show the assembly of a project kit.

Forming the lower pendant

Step 1: Cut 5" of wire and string on a 15mm tube bead + 10mm faceted ball + 15mm tube bead. Slide the beads to the center of the wire.

Step 2: Form a triangle and string a 6mm round bead over both wires. Slide the bead down to the tops of the tube beads.

Step 3: Wrap both wires around the skewer to form a loop. Twist the wires twice to secure and trim away the excess wire.

Step 4: Cut 10" of wire and bend it in half. Slide the pendant on and into the center.

Step 5: Wrap wire around a skewer to form a loop and twist twice to secure.

Step 6: Over both wires, string on a 6mm round bead, a 4-bump faceted bead, an 18mm round bead, a 4-bump faceted bead, a 6mm round bead, and the hanger. Slide the beads down.

Step 7: Above the 6mm round bead, use the skewer to form a loop. Twist both wires twice to secure. Take care to allow the hanger to be included within the loop as well as hang freely. Trim excess wire and set this part aside.

Step 8: Cut 10" of wire. Use the skewer to make a loop at one end.

Step 9: String on a 4-bump bead + a 5mm faceted bead and slide them down to the loop. Thread the wire back through the 5mm bead and use the skewer to form a loop.

Step 10: String on another 4-bump bead + a 5mm faceted bead. Again, thread the wire back through the 5mm bead.

Step 11: Continue until a square is formed. To close the square, twist the wire twice below the 5mm faceted bead. Trim excess wire.

Step 12: Fold the remaining wire in half. At the mid-point, wrap the wire under the 6mm bead near the top of the central piece.

Step 13: String on a 30mm tube bead and slide it up. Slide the square over the central piece. Wrap the wire between the bumps and the faceted 5mm end bead.

Step 14: String on another 30mm tube bead and wrap the wire above the 6mm round bead on the center piece.

Step 15: Continuing on the same wire, repeat these steps working upward. Wrap the wire around at the starting point (below the 6mm bead). Do not trim excess wire yet.

Step 16: Working on the second wire, repeat the technique until all tubes are added.

Step 17: Twist both wire ends together to secure and trim excess wire.

Step 18: Gently align ornament and display proudly!

Tips and Notes:

-- Be mindful of keeping your wire work orderly: not so tight that beads are stressed and break but not so loose that the ornament has poor form.

-- When wiring the tube beads into the geometric diamond shape, take note of wire tightness -- you want to be able to adjust and align the ornament and that will require a very little tiny bit of slack.

-- Take your ornament to the next level with a custom color combo! Get the kit plus additional 15mm and 30mm tube beads in a different color. You could get an additional 18mm round bead to swap out as well to get extra creative.
