Della Robbia Fruit Wreath Assembly Tutorial

This tutorial details how to create a festive, fruit-laden Della Robbia wreath using the Della Robbia Wreath Supply Pack.

Supplies:

Della Robbia Wreath Supply Pack

Sturdy Cardboard

Scissors + Pencil

Paint (like Folk Art's "Clover") + Paint Brush

Clear-drying Craft Glue like Aleene's

Compass (or Dinner Plate + Bowl for Creating Circles)

Optional: Clips

Step 1: Create a Wreath Shape.  Trace a 10-1/2" circle onto sturdy cardboard.  Trace an interior 6" circle to form a wreath shape.  Cut out.  If a compass is not available, a dinner place and a bowl work as templates.

Step 2: Paint Wreath.  Using green paint, paint both sides of the wreath form. Let dry.  We used Folk Art's "Clover."

Step 3: Add Ribbon Hanger.  Add a hanger by folding the ribbon in half, placing the loop end through the wreath, then threading the ends through the loop and pulling to secure.  The loop should sit snugly at the top of the wreath with the loose ends above.  The ribbon should lay flat against the wreath form.

Step 4: Embellish Wreath Form with Leaves.  Use approximately 48 leaves to cover the outside edge of the wreath.  Trim stems then place leaves: position first layer of leaves radially, overlapping slightly and let the leaves extend past the edge of the wreath.  Glue in place and let dry.   Place and glue leaves over the flat part of the ribbon.  Clips can be used to hold leaves during dry time.  For the next layer: trim stems and place autumn leaves radially around the center of the wreath form, overlapping each other as well as the first leaf layer.  Glue in place and let dry.  For the third and final layer: trim stems and place leaves lengthwise around the inner edge of the wreath overlapping once again.  Allow leaf edges to slightly extend past the wreath edge.  Glue in place and let dry.

Step 5: Place Fruit Clusters.  Fruit clusters form the initial ring of fruit and the supply pack contains 3 styles of fruit clusters:
A -- 3 bright red
B -- 3 red
C -- 6 smaller red with velvet leaves

Place clusters A and B symmetrically.  The place clusters C in between each A and B cluster.  Glue in place on wreath form and let dry.

Please note: It is helpful to keep all stems pointing in the same direction.  It is not necessary to trim any stems from the clusters.

Step 6: Add Loose Fruit, Flowers and Stamen.  Fill in gaps with loose fruits to create fullness.  Start with the largest fruit, next add flowers, end with small groups of golden stamen.  Trim stems as needed and glue in place.  Let dry and display proudly!
